UNCSA Woodwind Day Event

Join us September 20, 2025 for Woodwind Day at UNCSA! 

Splinter Reed Quintet joins UNCSA Professors Tadeu Coelho, Rachel Messing, Oskar Espina-Ruiz, Stephanie Patterson, and Caleb Carpenter in a day full of workshops, instrument maintenance, reed-making, chamber music, and career development. The day will include classes with Splinter Reed and Clarinet Repair Technician Mark Jacobi, as well as workshops with our award winning UNCSA woodwind faculty. Participants are encouraged to bring repertoire of their choosing including: all-state audition music, etudes and other repertoire. The day will culminate with a recital by Splinter Reeds at 7:30pm in Watson Recital Hall.

UNCSA Faculty Oboe Recital

UNCSA welcomes new oboe faculty member Rachel Messing with a solo performance. Her program, “Into the Woods,” explores a nature-inspired theme with oboe and English horn repertoire by Alyssa Morris, Jenni Brandon, Alexander Gardner and Eugène Bozza. For works featuring piano, Messing will be joined by School of Music faculty member Allison Gagnon.
